Mangos 1 FGR 2

Postby Craig Powell on Sat Oct 24, 2009 4:16 pm

Very disappointed with our approach to a winable game in my eyes. FGR were not the side i were expecting and if we concentrated on playing like we did against Truro this was ours for the taking.

But we sat back to much and hoofed the ball long constantly with no success. and FGR punished us.

Fairt play to FGR they deserved the win over 90 minutes and good luck in the next round

As Craig says this was defo there for the taking and that was the big disappointment for me. In my opinion we maybe gave them too much respect and if we had been a bit more gung ho and gambled we could have been looking at the First Round Proper. As I thought we certainly worried them when we attacked with pace but we didn't do this enough. If we had have done I am sure we could have won.
The chances that did come our way were wasted but to be honest we never looked like putting them away as our efforts were too hurried and it needed a cool head. Even when we got the late consolation you sensed there would be no rescue act or fightback.
When Forest Green scored their second goal it was only their third chance in the whole match up until then but the ratio of two goals from three was the key to winning the game and we must learn from this.
I always look forward to watching Forest Green as in the past they have played the way I like to see my football, fast, pacy and passing. They are clearly struggling these days but they have always done well to survive in the Conference. Good luck to them in the next round. A big well done to our management and players for such a good cup run and earning some good bunce along the way!
As the cliche goes its time to concentrate on the league and we sure have to start doing that big time. We have to be as up for that as we have been in the cup.

Personally I think we at least deserved a replay.

FGR were second best in the first half and had we not conceded so early on it could well have been a different story. We may not have created much during the first half but we did look more threatening than FGR.

The second half was more even with both teams finally creating some openings, however once we went two down that was it.

I have to admit to feeling slightly disappointed in our performance yesterday, if we'd have reached the level of performance that we showed in both matches against Truro we'd have won, no doubt.

Still, to reach the fourth qualifying round is good for the club, we gained good publicity, made a load of money and proved on our day we are a decent team.

We now have to carry this form into the league and put a decent run together.

Interesting to read on the FGR forum that they agree it was a poor performance by FGR but a couple have the cheek to blame the pitch. Now i know its not exactly Wembley but it is a lot better than some of the pitches i have seen this season. Wonder hat they blame it on when they get hammered 5-0 week in week out in the Conference

Ignore them Craig, their fans are "special".

Hard luck.

so forest green not only should be playing us again tues night but they are also ungratefull of their draw.

if u ask me they are lucky to be in the draw, as they played poor an to not be happy is stupid. We would do anything to be in that hat mansfield or not.

must say i dont think theyll be in the next hat.

if only we played against them like we did against truro.

up the league we go.

I can only echo what has already been said by others on here, we weren't on our game which is a shame because the game was more than winnable as FGR looked pretty average. The first half was dull with neither team, despite the swirling wind, wanting to play the ball on the deck. Second half was more entertaining but the second FGR goal always looked on the cards as we were forced to push on for an equaliser. Sad to say we blew our best chance to date of making the 1st round proper.
On a positive note it was good to see a decent size crowd in the ground, lets hope some come back and cheer us when we need to pick up some valuable league points.
