Were we completely outplayed today then???!!!!

Postby Dave S on Sat Oct 31, 2009 10:13 pm

Just back earlier today from a week in a mainly dry Brixham in glorious Devon and having been surprised, in all honesty, to find that we won in midweek against Merthyr (I half expected an FA Cup hangover in that game), I now hear we got trounced 4-0 at home today v Windsor & Eton who are now league leaders. :o :o :o

Well, I say trounced, because a 4-0 home defeat suggests that it was a trouncing in my book, so was it really as bad as the score suggests??? Was it the same as I heard v FGR in that we are still crying out for a striker to put chances away for us, even though we scored 3 on Tuesday night?? It's daft, I still look at our squad line-up and it looks reasonably strong on paper to me. What is going wrong?

Poor crowd today as well, I see - just 137. No Rovers at home either, and OK, some may have been returning from holidays as I was, but I still expected a figure higher than that, even if by not too many more.

Anyone with any comments on today's game?

To be honest about it they should have had more than four goals.Their finishing in front of goal was light years ahead of ours,We did have a couple of chances that weren't taken, but like you say we are crying out for a striker.I'd be happy with a mid table finish.

Yesterday was dreadful, after going behind we never looked like pegging it back. Too many players were way off it and as has been said earlier we could have been hammered.

Our league form IS already a concern, we need to get a win ASAP and start to climb the table, otherwise we'll be scrapping around in the bottom third of the league once again.

A striker as we all know is a must, the board have to support Phil Bater IF he can identify a goalscoring striker who wants to sign for us.

A echo the statements made so far. we were poor yesterday. But in saying that Windsor and Eton are now top but they werent that great a side.

In front of goal you could see the confidence they had though. intresting to see Marcus Richardson has dropped down a level now from Farnborough last season and he was a class act. And they have definatly signed a live wire in Victor Osobu (who incendetly appears for Beaconsfield SYCOB in the top scorers list with 4 goals in the program for yesterday in the midland league). that was the only differnece really. we did play some football yesterday but had nothing up top AGAIN

Sorry I can't agree Craig I thought we were simply dire yesterday, there was much more than just the strikers between the two sides!!

One of the most notable differences between the sides was W&E's desire and work rate.

What I saw yesterday was reminiscent of some of the rubbish of last season.

There aren't any excuses as this team should be much higher in the league than the 20th place we currently occupy!!!

Thanks for your views everyone. What an important month we now enter, as we start playing catch-up with our league fixtures. We may still be in 2 cups, but these are minor cups, so the emphasis must be on getting some points on the board in the coming weeks, starting at Taunton on Tuesday. We remain in the bottom 3, as we have for some weeks now through not playing any league games, so now it's time to start using these games in hand to our best advantage, and that means picking up points. We do not want to be the first club promoted out of the Western League to be relegated back to it, and although it is still only November, action needs to be take now and not later in the season when we could find ourselves in a worse position than we are now.

It also goes without saying that with 2 tough home games next weekend & Tuesday week (Thatcham & Abingdon), we should aim to try and take at least 4 points from those 2 games - if possible - but let's get something from Taunton first, a team who have always struggled at this level since they got promoted, so let's aim to keep them struggling......
